How Blogging Brings in Business

The SEO arguments in favor of blogging are well rehearsed, but there is more to blogging than Google. Blogging can also bring you more business.

That doesn’t mean sales through advertising or revenue from affiliate marketing. Although making money using these strategies is possible on a blog, you can also get direct business – sales for your products, or leads for your services that result in new contracts.

This is soft selling, but it can yield real results. How do you do it? You know those infomercials you see on the television or the segments broadcast on shopping channels? Soft selling is the exact opposite. Instead of a hard message delivered quickly, soft selling involves building up relationship and trust. This takes time, but the rewards are greater in the long run.

Decide On The Goal

What do you want to achieve with your blog? This is an important first question to ask if you want it to bring in business. Here are some objectives that you could have:

  • Direct more traffic to the product / sales pages of your website
  • Get more signups for your email list that you can target with an email marketing campaign
  • Request more information or fill out an enquiry form
  • Download something for free like an ebook or white paper
  • Register for a free trial

When you have decided what precisely you want the blog to achieve you can move onto the next stage.

Understand the Audience

Think about the following:

  • Who is your customer (age, economic status, education level, sex, etc)?
  • What are their pain (and pleasure) points?
  • What would make their life easier?
  • How do they find your content (through search, referral, social media etc)?
  • What device do they use to access your content?
  • What interests them?
  • What do they not care about?
  • What are they passionate about?

When you know exactly who your audience is, you can tailor your content for them.

Create Great Content

Next you have to create amazing content.

Finding content is the easy part of the Internet. But finding something that you actually want to read? That’s the challenge. If you entertain and educate your customers with amazing content, you can win more traffic and sales.

For a start, make your content unique. To make your blog to stand out, you’ll need unique ideas, and a different way of presenting them. Find something that is unique in everything that you produce and you’ll produce top-notch content that leaves your readers craving more.

And when your readers crave more, there’s a good chance they’ll become customers.

Market Your Blog

Next you have to market your blog as there is no point going through all the steps above if nobody can see it. Firstly make sure it is well structured for SEO then publicize it on social media, through your email list, and through your other business contacts.

If you want to take it a step further you can publish your content on third-party sites as a guest blogger, or through syndication networks. Don’t do this for SEO purposes though. Instead it’s best to do it to get more traffic on your own blog. More traffic will help you achieve the objective that you decided upon at the start of the blogging process.

Blogging brings in business by selling (without selling). This is the ultimate goal.
